Van Buren township starts annual property listing March 1 with personal property. this year includes a quadrennial real estate appraisal. Assessors have six days to complete initial work after duties begin January 1 for a four year term. Local social notes mention visits by Mrs Emier and the Fitzhenry and Poling households in Van Buren.
The Andrews Independents beat the local Independents 82 to 55 Friday night. Ferguson was out. Von Melling started at center with Griffith at guard, his first game, scoring five field goals and contributing strong play. The team has nine games with eight wins. Lineup highlights Van Buren Melling Creviston Plummer Griffith total 82. Andrews Kelsey Shinkel Struter Wire DePoy total 55.
The letter from Verl, serving with the Army of Occupation in Germany, recounts travel from France through Belgium and Luxembourg to Germany near the Rhine. He notes refugees, friendly welcomes, actual meals, beds in various places, and German civilians aiding soldiers while some locals dislike breadtacks given to children.

Many farmers selling and moving as rentals sell out, making spring possession hard, but Saethers reports success listing several parcels.
Mrs Paul Will of Marion sold her farm just south of town to Walter Pattison of near Gas City. Possession to be given by March 1. Deal arranged by Thos B Sme thers, the local real estate man.
The public service commission announced a hearing on February 10 at 10 o'clock for Marion and Bluffton's request to raise passenger rates from two to two and a half cents per mile.
The Van Buren volunteer fire department met with the town board and reorganized. W. A. Worrell was elected fire chief with Gilbert O. Losure as assistant. Dean Paxton is Secretary-Treasurer. New equipment includes coats, a rubber coat and bats, a shut-off, and a numbered plug system for fire alarms. A follow up meeting is set for Friday at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
The Bluffton Phi Delta Kappas visit the local Independents for a promised fast game this Saturday night. Both teams have improved since last year, with the locals paying salaries to strengthen the squad. The lineup lists Melling, Creviston, Kyle Ferguson, Cummins, Plummer, Shoemaker, and Moomaw among others, facing Bluffton players Prough, Crawford, and Merriman.
Mrs O R Leeth and her son Edward Scavtia request attention to a matter set for Tuesday at a rector’s office. The notice seeks contact regarding a family matter and passage of time.
