The Van Buren News-Eagle announces a final Bargain Season closing Saturday night August 6. Readers are urged to subscribe at one dollar a year, a one third cut from the usual price of $1.50, with many readers paying one or two years in advance.
The Range Line threshing ring met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nye Friday night for final settlement. The ring threshed 4 745 bushels of wheat and 8 127 bushels of oats. Wichita Kansas preacher W H Horn will lead a series of gospel meetings at the Church of Christ on East Main Street Van Buren starting Sunday August. An all day meeting and basket dinner are planned for Sunday August 14 inviting all to attend and hear the truth.

Mrs. Lewis Shaw of Warren spent Wednesday with her mother, Mrs. Sarah Carl, who has improved sufficiently to be around the house.

John L. Knight died at his home in Andrews Wednesday night. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He was 87 and survived by his widow several children and a brother Henry Knight of this place. He formerly lived on the Reed farm south of town for many years.
Bible School begins at 9 30 a m with special vocal and instrumental music. At 10 30 a m Rev A L Martin preaches a sermon and in the evening he delivers another characteristic sermon with a special musical program. All are invited.

Miss Loretta Blakely, music instructor in Gas City schools last year, was stricken with appendicitis at noon Saturday and rushed to St. John’s hospital in Anderson where she underwent surgery Saturday evening. Miss Dorothy Smith visited on Sunday. doctors expect a steady recovery.
In Richmond Indiana on August 18 Miss Warna I Johnson will wed Thomas R Barr of New Castle in a historic old Quaker ceremony without a license. The bridegroom’s mother Mrs Daisy Barr a Quaker pastor will announce the marriage. It marks the first Quaker wedding here in fifty years and preserves the simple vows before witnesses. Mrs Barr formerly lived in Van Buren and her son visited Richmond two years ago.
Acting on John A. Jones recommendation the county commissioners move to cut precincts for the September 6 election to approve constitutional amendments. Center township will be reduced to as few as one or two precincts with central voting, other townships consolidated where feasible, aiming to drop total precincts from sixty seven to about thirty and save roughly 1756 dollars plus printing and supply costs.
The Scott Arnett reunion will be held at Matter Park on Sunday August 7 an all day gathering with dinner served at 12 30 pm Many family members will attend for the first time in years due to long distances from Marion Electric fans advertised as health boosters available at Austin Coreys.
