A delayed wedding announcement details the marriage of Miss Dixy Hoone to Mr Z Moore of Unionville Minnesota. The couple resides at Cruther and plan a wedding trip to Knowles California after the ceremony in Canada. They will visit Mr Moore’s sister Mrs Jack Stites in an extended family celebration with many friends sending congratulations.
Supt H U G Turnmire declined an unsolicited offer from State Superintendent Elect Baker for a statewide post. Baker bypassed applicants, showing independence, while Turnmire’s stay is welcomed as evidence of strong local school leadership in Putnam County.
Discharged soldiers and sailors have been returning slowly but will likely come more readily. A group arrived today including Percy F Casady and Carl M Entsminger from Camp McArthur Texas Kern Morgan Loren Smith Overta McClomn and Est Shelton from the S AIC at Kirksville and Jay Davis formerly of the battleship Mississippi. Jay wears a gold service strip.
A brakeman named B A Wilson was severely injured at Laclede when a car part struck him in the face. A large chisel flew from a handle, tearing the nose and opening an eye corner. six or seven stitches were needed. He is 93 and the son in law of Mr and Mrs J H Farnsworth of Centerville Iowa and is recovering at home.
Mrs Hettie Killough died at Mar-Valtown Town on December 10, 1918 after an influenza attack followed by pneumonia. She was 51 and mother to Dawson Killough of this city and Mrs Virgil Matthew of Lemons. Residents remember her as estimable with many county friends. Her father known as Casey is widely known. a wounded young man here has many warm friends hoping for his early recovery.
A Friday morning message to Mr and Mrs J. W. Jones announced Earl Ray Jones was severely wounded in action on November 9 in France. The Jones family resides at an address in the community.
Mrs S Vaughters received a telegram Friday announcing that her cousin Albert Hoskinson died at his Garden City home. He had been troubled with diabetes for years, likely causing his death. He moved away as a child, later became a Kansas-licensed lawyer, and practiced there. He was about 44 or 45.
News reaches that Grover Lane died in a French hospital from wounds received before armistice. He was 26, married to Mamie Mullenix and leaves a daughter, mother, and relatives. A nurse wrote the first word of his injury. Glen Rennells returned from military training in Mississippi with discharge.
