Hopewell PTA Carnival Friday Night Highlights Prizes
Hopewell fifth graders compete in a 6:30 p.m. Wiener-eating contest with room reps for boys and girls. Winners earn a basketball or soccer ball for their homerooms. The indoor Pick-a-winner booth offers bicycles, prizes from local sponsors, a collectors watch, a bean bag chair, restaurant passes, and more. Art by silhouette artist Paul Hoyte, plus cafeteria dinners at modest prices.

Union Township Tops Building Permit List in Butler County
Butler County commissioners received a year to date report showing 1 028 permits issued through September with a total value of 20 891 480. Last month 91 permits valued at 1 931 724 were issued compared with 110 permits at 1 481 857 in September last year. Union Township led last month with 20 permits valued at 179 421. Liberty Township had four permits valued at 45 882. The Union Township permits include CK ystems Inc office and maintenance facilities 213 800 Marks Tractor and Equipment warehouse and office 177 328 and Cort Furniture Rental warehouse office and showroom 409 000. Commission ers heard a resident complain water drainage from a construction site along Kyles Station Road damages property, with calls for engineer and soil conservation discussion. Extension of water service and sewer lines to Kingsgate subdivision was approved, as was an audit for fiscal year 1974 on the Eastern Union Township water system. Hinchberger noted last year’s billing was the lowest in five years and figures have declined for three years.

Cats Reunited With Florida Owners After I-75 Bus Rescue
Cornelius and Corky Bush along with Jack Siermanski escaped a car fire on I-75 near Monroe while traveling from Jackson to Florida. Dispatcher Joann Horner arranged bus and air transport for the pets, and Vet James McClung supplied care. The cats and owners later reunited in Florida.
