Journal News notes a typographical error on a sign seen by photographer Bob McMahen along Route 63 in Monroe. The sign read ESTERN Baptist Seminary, with clarification that it refers to the well known EASTERN Baptist Seminary.
Monroe clerk treasurer Betty Ex and her assistant resigned during a regular council meeting Tuesday night after reportedly criticizing Mayor Gordon Reed. Ex said she could no longer work under present village conditions and that one person dominating the village is not good.
The Lakota West Chester Kiwanis installed officers at the Sheraton Motor Inn West Chester inaugurating its first full administrative year. President David Hurst leads with Henry Klein as vice president Franklin Byrd as vice president Dick Battaglia as secretary and Jim Scholle as treasurer.
Union Township and Fairfield police arrested six adults and three juveniles after a six week undercover drug probe. About $5 000 in drugs were seized from a Pisgah mobile home. Suspects include Mike Bales Greg Norton and Fred Owens all 18 plus two 16 year olds. Fairfield arrests include Redrick Rubin Todd Betscher and Gery Bonney. The four county operation also netted 14 arrests across Butler Warren Hamilton and Clermont.

Butler County Grand Jury returns 24 indictments including robbery of a financial institution and three counts of shooting with intent to kill against Arthur Caroline Brown 21 and James H Battell 24. A third suspect Lionel G Stewart 23 was killed during the manhunt near Howard Johnson Motel.
