Gano to light candles for centennial party

The secluded Butler County village of Gano marks 100 years with a Saturday 7 p m centennial program and ice cream social at Holtsinger Memorial Presbyterian Church. Historian Virginia Showalter explains Gano’s pronunciation and history from its 1873 plat to today’s 48 homes and 157 residents.

Auction gavel to sound for Liberty firemen

Union and Liberty clash over Ohio lottery proposal

Union Township backed the statewide lottery with 650 for and 402 against while Liberty Township rejected it 152 to 103. Monroe village and Lemon Township approved 485 to 414, as Butler County voters overall approved the state lottery proposal.

Liberty fire department growth seen inevitable

The Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department led by Fire Chief Henry Taylor plans a second fire house a life squad and another pumper tanker as Butler County's growth area expands. The department now has 34 members with a pumper a tanker and a grass fire jeep and awaits potential Federal funding for a life squad vehicle. The Ladies Auxiliary supports operations with 20 members.
