Butler County approves new water system fees for customers

Butler County Commissioners approved system capacity fees for new water customers in the airfield Liberty and Union townships. The plan sets a $100 connection fee for single family homes, $200 minimum for multi family with $50 per unit, and $200 to $600 for commercial or industrial connections. Reiff urged equal condo and single family charges. Hinchberger cited demand from dry summers and growth, with plans for a Princeton Road main to improve storage and transmission. Fire service charges for private systems were also approved with abstention by Logsdon.

Liberty Township fires chief shielded amid controversy and probes

Liberty Township trustees voted confidence in Fire Chief Taylor amid heated meetings. Former volunteer Sherman Reed sought a formal investigation, while Countryside Village resident Bob Benton pressed for inquiries into a mobile home park fire and water pressure issues. Trustees maintained the chief’s handling. Reed threatened possible court action.

Gano Village to Celebrate Bicentennial Sunday

Friends of Gano Village are invited to attend its bicentennial celebration on Sunday June 27. The day will begin with a morning event at the village center followed by activities throughout the afternoon honoring the town’s 200 year milestone.

Lakota Booster Calendar deadlines and fall events

Local organizers must contact Carol Boeckley by Friday to list events on the Lakota Booster Calendar at ten cents per insertion. Booster Calendars go on sale mid August for 1.25, with proceeds funding Lakota junior and high school activities. Also notes marching band rehearsals, a bicentennial worship service, and upcoming community projects and meetings.

Mini ambassador begins tour of Germany from Detroit

Marty Hutzelman departs for Holzgerlinges Germany to serve as a Mini Ambassador on the Youth For Undert Standing program. She flies Detroit to Zurich and will stay with Gustav Wilhelm Nordmann’s family. Her 44 pound baggage includes messages from the United States and a copy of Union Township’s Civic Directory.

West Chester Dump Yields Toxic Pits Under EPA Scrutiny

Ohio EPA tests at John Skinner landfill in West Chester found about 40 drums of a black ooze in a pit suspected to contain industrial wastes. Officials say no ground water contamination yet and core samples will determine soil permeability to prevent future health risks.

Flag Day services honor liberty township bicentennial

Flag Day observances were held at the old Hughes Schoolhouse in Liberty Township. Congressman Tom Kindness presented a bicentennial flag and an American flag flown over the Capitol. Scouts raised flags as the Miami Valley Militia fired cannons. The Lakota High School Band performed patriotic numbers as Mrs. Lucille Ball led the National Anthem and Sandra Tugrul read Am Your Flag. Dan Hughes hosted. Art Baird gave benediction.
