King and Queen chosen for 1973 Butler County Fair
Miss Debbie Niederman and Bruce Erhardt were named Farm Bureau King and Queen for 1973, to reign over youth activities at the Butler County Fair August 19 through 25. The selection was by the Butler and Maids Youth Organization of the Butler County Farm Bureau.

Police Chief William Noland asked Union Township trustees to place a 1.5 mill levy for the police on the November ballot citing rapid population growth. Dog captured after biting Liberty girl
A German Shepherd bit a six year old girl near her Liberty Township home on Hamilton Mason Road. The dog was captured Wednesday and placed under a 10 day quarantine to observe for rabies. The child required 26 stitches and was treated at Mercy Hospital.

Shooting death of Union Township woman under investigation
A 24-year-old Union Township resident Janet Vance was found shot to death at her home on West Chester Road. Her husband Dallas Vance reported the incident around 10:46 a.m. The coroner and deputies responded, with the body taken to Mercy Hospital morgue. The victim reportedly had been dead since about 4 a.m. The shooting remains under investigation.

Station attendants plead innocent to assault with a deadly weapon
Three gas station attendants faced assault with a deadly weapon charges after a June incident in Union Township. Charles E. Cockrell George B. Delay and Daryl Alexander pleaded not guilty and were released on bonds. They allegedly threw gasoline on bus riders and threatened to ignite it near Brent's Service Station on Tylersville Road. The bus was en route to Riverfront Stadium and riders were treated at Mercy Hospital. At the same session Freddie Sandlin Nancy Mitchell and Walter Lacy were convicted of drunk driving with jail terms fines and suspensions.
