Dave Heinlein of 7126 Becky Drive is a December Santa stand-in for Chessie System brakeman duties. He dons a red flannel suit with authentic glasses and leather belt, visiting homes across 100 miles on Christmas Eve to meet families, often funding toys or baskets from his own pocket. He and his wife celebrate their first Christmas with adopted daughter Tracy, age 5.

Fire damages home in Liberty Township
A Monday night fire destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs Earl Shawhan at 5607 Horseshoe Bend Road Liberty Township with losses estimated at 30000. No injuries were reported and the couple is staying with relatives in Hamilton. The Liberty fire department fought the blaze and officials have not disclosed a cause.

Former Liberty Fireman Appears Before Trustee Board
Sherman Reed who quit the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department protested decisions by fire chief Henry Taylor appeared before the trustee board. Reed presented six statements and questioned the January 1 reorganization meeting open to the public. Fire reports showed 12 runs in November including three house fires and a life squad tally of 13. Trustees will meet December 20 to close the year and January 1 for the organizational meeting at 10 a.m. at the Yankee Road firehouse.
