Filing deadline passes as Liberty trustee Shannon not candidate

Butler County elections records show Liberty Township incumbent Jack Shannon will not seek re election leaving four candidates in the Liberty trustee race and five filing for Union Township two seats. Incumbents Art Baird Emile Munch and David McGinnis plus three challengers filed in Union. Lakota School Board race sees three incumbents seeking three seats with Nancy Lee King the sole new candidate. Fire and police levies also appear on the ballot with tentative sums and projects noted. Shannon plans to move outside Liberty boundaries, disqualifying him from the race.

PUCO Grants United Telephone Emergency Rate Increase

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved a 3.9 million emergency rate hike for United Telephone Co. serving most of Warren County Mason and part of Pisgah in Butler County. The measure is less than half of the 9.4 million requested in March 1973. Rate hikes to customers start next Monday and may be under 10 percent. A hearing on customer complaints is set for August 27 in Lebanon with about 6,300 petitions filed.

Pisgah family carnival claims national cancer fund record

The Edward Van Skaik family raised about 2200 dollars at a Reading Terraqua Club carnival in Pisgah to benefit the Hamilton County Cancer Society. If confirmed as a national record, it would surpass any private fund raising for cancer research. final tallies may rise after Monday review.

Powell announces 1974 revenue sharing for 8th district

Congressman Walter E Powell says 1974 revenue sharing payments will be distributed to 8th District governments under the 1972 act. Hamilton will get 1 023 286, Butler County 791 132, Fairfield 158 045, Middletown 1 040 671, Oxford 125 229, New Miami 50 147, and several townships including Madison 36 364 and Union 38 780 also receive funds.

Union Township Police Chief cites rapid growth straining protection

Union Township faces stretched police coverage as Chief William Noland says current staffing serves 35 square miles with only two patrolmen. He urges November passage of a 1.5 mill police levy to roughly double staff and add juvenile division, noting taxes will rise but service should improve.

Liberty water meeting and patrol plan discussed in county session

Liberty officials schedule a Monday 7 p.m. public meeting at Liberty School to consider extending water lines into Huntsville Bethany and Liberty Trails as Liberty Butler County commissioners and the county water and sewer department attend. Township trustees will delay their meeting to hear the county presentation.
