In a 24 hour span from Friday 9 p.m. to Saturday 9 p.m. five people died in traffic crashes and another from February injuries. W. Russell Hicks of the Hamilton Safety Council calls it among the worst periods in Butler County history with 18 deaths this year, up from 16 at the same point last year.

Mrs. Flo Schaffer preserves Ukrainian pysanky at her Placid Drive home in Union Township. Using a kistka wax-resist technique, she creates intricate red orange and black patterns that take one to three hours per egg. The tradition, rooted in Ukrainian heritage and religious symbolism, traces back to ancient times and is passed from mother to daughter.
Two Middletown men were injured when a car left the road on State Route 747 and crashed into a 69,000 volt CG&E pole, causing a blackout southwest of LeSourdville. Driver Joseph Singerhoffer, 47, is in serious condition at Mercy Hospital with chest and knee injuries. passenger John Dearth, 27, treated and released for a forearm fracture. Service resumed by 3:50 a.m.
