California Highway Patrol Captain Carl Harder told Ukiah Junior Chamber of Commerce that less than 10 percent of drivers cause 99 percent of accidents. He urged driver education and at home habits to curb injuries, noting enforcement has reduced injury crashes in Lake and Mendocino counties. Nominations for officers will occur at the May 12 meeting.

Willits Frontier Days Sweetheart Contest Opens
Entries are now being accepted for the Sweetheart of Willits Frontier Days celebration on July 3 and 4. The winner receives 3100 in cash and a $75 western riding outfit plus a loving cup and formal. Potter Valley Spring Festival and Rodeo Returns in May
The Potter Valley community hosts its tenth annual Spring Festival and rodeo May 14 and 15 to aid the local volunteer fire department. Activities include a festival queen crowning, a parade, flower show, games, a Saturday dance at the high school gym, Grecott’s orchestra, and a Sunday rodeo at Holman Ranch with a grand entry at 1 30 p.m. A barbecue runs noon to 1 30 p.m.

The wife and two sons of Philo lumber firm employe Lonnie Elbert Counts filed a 176128 civil suit in Superior Court for his death. The action names Hollifield Lumber Co. as defendant with Lonnie Counts alleged to have been receiving instruction at the time of the accident when a log on a truck and trailer rolled off during unloading.
