Senate panel mulls extending Lance stock sale deadline

Budget Director Bert Lance may get more time to sell his Georgia bank stock as the Senate Government Affairs Committee probes past irregularities. Chairman Ribicoff and Sen. Percy back a temporary extension to the December 31 deadline provided an audited financial statement is released. The White House maintains Lance has done nothing illegal and his resignation is not being urged.

Dymally to Visit Ukiah for Economic Development Luncheon

Guzzler tax setback in Senate Finance Committee

The Senate Finance Committee voted 11 to 5 to kill President Carter's proposed gas guzzling car tax, after House approval. It would have begun in 1979 with up to 553 for sub 13 mpg and 339 for under 15 mpg, amid energy program doubts and splits over repeal of local gasoline tax deductions.

Rain not easing drought crops and deer season opens

Northern California rainfall did little to relieve drought as crops face damage risk including tomatoes alfalfa hay grapes and peaches. Fire danger eased allowing inland late deer seasons to open Saturday across most of the state with dates running through Oct 16 and Nov 6 in specific zones.
