Annexation hearing on southside school district
Ukiah city council will hold a public hearing Wednesday September 29 on annexing the southside school district to the city. Superintendent Jack Simpson reported residents polled favored 75 to 62 against. about 135 to 140 district voters are registered. The district seeks city water and sewers for a new school at Washington and Helen streets, outside current limits. Boundary notes include north city limits, east Redwood highway, south Beacon Lane, and part of Redwood Avenue. expansion east of the highway is opposed by the district. Questions remain on costs and timing for running feet, sewer/water availability, streets, and city commitment. Council requested a study of utility lines from city engineer Douglas Cruickshank.

Ukiah Seventh-day Adventists will dedicate their new church at 900 South Dora Street debt-free in ceremonies Saturday September 18 Pastor Clarence Williams announced. C L Bauer of Los Angeles Pacific Union Conference will deliver the sermon at 3 30 p m with music by Lenore Hazelhurst Merrill Abbott and the church choir. The building seats 300 with overflow for 50 and cost about 94000 including furnishings. The first Adventist congregation in Ukiah formed April 12 1898 and has grown from 14 charter members to 205.

Council Drafts New No Parking Street Ordinance

Potter Valley lumber worker injured in log mishap
At 0:30 this morning Potter Valley resident Claude Fisher, employed at Ukiah Pine Lumber, fell from a log watch and was run over by a bulldozer. He was transported by Zimmerman ambulance to Ukiah General Hospital for examination and treatment.

Redwood Valley Opens New Classrooms with Open House
Redwood Valley School invites the community to an open house Friday from 7 30 to 8 30 p m to mark the first use of new classrooms and offices. The additions include four classrooms an administrator office and a kindergarten room funded by the State School Building Aid program with 7 500 square feet total. Construction began November 1953 and was completed with the board accepting the project last week. The enrollment rose to 375 with kindergarten adding growth prior to fall term. The open house precedes the first Redwood Valley Parent Teacher Association meeting.
