SF Group Petitions Return of Cables

SAN FRANCISCO UP An initiative petition to restore the entire California Street Cable car system as it existed last Jan 1 will be filed with the Board of Supervisors next Monday. Attorney Morris Lowenthal head of the group sponsoring the amendment will ask the board to put the initiative on the November ballot. The group has collected about 74 000 signatures, 55 000 must be valid, to nullify Proposition E approved in June which cut some lines and approved consolidation of others.

Dulles in London after quick West Germany arm plan

Secretary of State Dulles met with Churchill and Eden in London to discuss rapid arming of West Germany on terms agreed with Adenauer. France rejected the plan and Paris media called Dulles’ approach a diplomatic snub, while Eden pressed for a broader European defense under NATO. France’s Mendes France stance and Britain’s limited one-division commitment fueled friction as Dulles stood by his London course.

Ukiah Judges Headed to Coronado Bar Convention

Superior Court Judges Hale Mc Cowen and Lilburn Gibson will attend the annual California judges and bar association conference in Coronado next week. Judge Gibson and his wife depart tomorrow morning from Ukiah for San Francisco to board a plane south, and plan to return the following Saturday. Judge McCowen will also leave tomorrow and come back the Wednesday after the conference ends.

US offers Russia chance to interview Rastrov

Washington reports say the United States told the Soviet Union that former diplomat Yuri Rastrov is available for questioning on his defection and why he abandoned communism for freedom in the United States. Fort Bragg Woman Hurt In Highway Accident

Betty Moore of Fort Bragg was treated at Howard hospital Willits for minor injuries after a 2 10 a m Redwood Highway crash six and a half miles south of Willits. Patrolman Roy Burton reports Moore’s Pontiac struck a truck trailer and she was cited for being on the wrong side of the road.

Reds May Invade Tachen Islands

Taipei reports Nationalist sources say the Communists frustrated by retaliation at Quemoy may attempt an invasion of the Tachen Islands about 200 miles northwest. Red artillery bombarded an island in the Tachen group as warships and patrol planes were seen in the area. the Nationalist navy sank one Red vessel in a sea skirmish and bombers hit Red positions near Amoy where 100 junks were sunk.

Court Sentences lillery for AN PYESS

Jack Tillery a 19 year old of Boonville was sentenced to 90 days in the county jail by Judge Hale McCowen after pleading guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor on August 15. Four other men pleaded guilty on burglary charges and were referred to the county probation office for a report next week.
