Quang Tri Citadel Storm Feels Forward Push In

South Vietnamese marines breached the Citadel walls at Quang Tri City linking inside the fortress marking a breakthrough in the stalemate. UPI field reports say U S raids over North Vietnam, including 300 total today, targeted bridges and bunkers near Hanoi as Da Nang area forces face fierce assaults.

American student tours Brazil forms lifelong bonds

Genny McKeon an 18 year old exchange student from Ukiah graduated in June and spent 10 weeks in Caxias do Sul Brazil living with Laura and Marian Weber and their children Magda and John. She recalls warm hospitality from people and notes language and schooling differences. Genny plans to visit again and hopes to honeymoon in Brazil. she brought back gifts for her Davis bound family.

Ackerman Creek development seeks 92 lot subdivision approval

Mendocino County LAFCO approved the formation of a county services district for the Ackerman Creek project north of Ukiah contingent on planning commission maps. The plan, shifting from 49 to 92 residential lots, would use sewer lines instead of septic waste disposal. Neighbors raising ecological concerns, and state agencies questioned septic use, while developers plan levee repairs and possible extension to ensure site safety.

Israel vows to smite terrorists as border tensions rise

Absentee Deadline for Ukiah Area College Ballot

Absentee voters must return ballots by 5 p m on Monday Sept 18 to the courthouse for Tuesday Sept 19 special election in Ukiah Anderson Valley Willits and Round Valley Unified districts. Voters may use unreturned ballots at their consolidated precincts and affidavits are available for those who did not receive ballots. The county will form a new community college district and elect seven trustees from seven areas with no runoff, results tabulated at the courthouse Tuesday night.
