GSA says private college use not allowed at Mendocino State Hospital

Mendocino County supervisors were told GSA attorneys consider AB 1611 public use restrictions prevent vacated Mendocino State Hospital from housing a private non profit college. Beltrami cited interest from United States International University and others while Ukiah school district eyed land for a future high school site. The board referred the decision to the district attorney for interpretation, with further input possible from the state attorney general.

Mendo County Awarded $44 162 Grant for Waste Study

Administrator Al Beltrami announced EPA approval by phone Tuesday for a $44 162 grant to finance a solid waste disposal study in Mendo County. EMCOM Associates of San Jose will conduct the study to propose alternatives for optimum handling of solid wastes.

Wire found in mashed potatoes prompts county alert

Mendocino County Welfare Director Dennis Denny issued a strong warning after small wire fragments were found in packages of instant mashed potatoes distributed through the county commodity program. Residents who received such potatoes since Sept. 1 should sift contents and report any foreign matter to the welfare department. Only a very small number of packages were affected, and no further issuance will occur until all products are verified free of contamination. The warning followed a report from Mrs. Kruse Castro who notified a local radio station Tuesday.
