Bruce Crook, local accountant, was named to head Mendocino County Tuberculosis Association’s 195d Seal Sale drive at Tuesday’s Palace Hotel meeting. Mrs. Satterwhite reported 5391 X-rays were taken in spring, with nine hospitalizations and 30 under observation. A county wide patch testing plan for elementary students with parental consent was discussed.

Pasadena Mass Meeting Demands Relief from Smog Plague

In Pasadena a mass meeting organized by the Citizens Anti Smog Action Committee drew about 6000 residents from Los Angeles County cities. E James Lee urged enlisting 100000 people to wage a little people war against air pollution and pressed for stronger laws and enforcement. Kelseyville High football players apprehended two b young escapees who fled Solano County Juvenile Detention Hall and robbed a car. Knight Given Jail Sentence For Battery

Edward Knight, 26, received a suspended three month county jail sentence after being found guilty of four counts of battery and one of disturbing the peace. Judge W S Van Dyke also ordered $100 court costs in lieu of a fine and placed him on one year probation. Knight aided fellow defendant Jess Payton, 19, in the beating of four teenagers on September 30. Payton to appear in court Friday after pleading not guilty to two counts.

Fort Bragg Man Ends Own Life by Hanging

Matt Moilanen a 70 year old Finnish native killed himself yesterday morning by hanging from a rafter in a woodshed behind his Fort Bragg home at 251 Corry Street. Deputy coroner Larry Moore said ill health and severe ruptures prompted the act. He was found by his wife at 12 30 PM after returning from a grocery trip. Moilanen used a rubberized electric cord. Funeral arrangements are pending at Caine Funeral Home. Surviving are his wife and a son Walter, both of Fort Bragg.

Johnson Blasts GOP Over McCarran Succession

LAS VEGAS (UP) Senate Democratic leader Lyndon B. Johnson accused Republicans of depriving Nevada voters of their rights by backing a successor to late Sen. Pat McCarran. Gov Ernest Brown, a Reno lawyer, was appointed to fill the two year term and will face Alan Bible, McCarran’s protege and former state Attorney General, in the election ruled by Nevada Supreme Court.
