Hoover dies at 90 dies. Hoover to lie in state

Herbert Clark Hoover former 31st U.S. president dies at 11 35 a m EDT in his Waldorf Towers apartment at age 90. Army plans grand funeral rites with lying in state in New York and Washington then burial in West Branch Iowa atop a hill near his birthplace. His wife Lou Henry Hoover and sons Herbert Jr Allan to be present.

Nation Pays Tribute To Herbert Hoover

President Johnson and Senator Goldwater led the nation in tribute to former President Herbert Hoover. Johnson issued a 30 day flag half staff proclamation and ordered suitable honors by armed forces at the funeral.

Conley Found Guilty in Double Homicide Case

William Conley Jr was found guilty of first degree murder for the July 19 attack that killed Elaine McCool and husband Clifton as they fled their Clay Street cabin with their 18 month old baby. The jury deliberated five hours ten minutes before Superior Judge Robert Winston. The trial included a sanity hearing with experts testifying that Conley was sane at the time. If sane, a penalty hearing will decide between life imprisonment or other sentencing. The baby survived uninjured.

Myers Held Without Bail on Sonoma County Bench Warrant

Robert Nelson Myers, 21, Uki ah, is en route to Healdsburg at the request of a Sonoma County judge who had Myers picked up by sheriff's deputies here and held without setting of bail through the bench warrant. Specific charges were not known.

Ukiah Grid Tickets Urgently Checked For Sanity

Ukiah High School warns grid fans to verify tickets for Friday and future home games. Officials report the Anton Stadium ticket booth was broken into and about 100 tickets were stolen and allegedly resold. Tickets without the Student Activities seal will be rejected at entry. Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for others.

Record 16,863 psychiatrists in U S practice

Washington report notes a record 16,863 psychiatrists practicing in the United States. The figure, from Health and Welfare based on National Institute of Mental Health and American Psychiatric Association statistics, equals 6.3 percent of 267,950 physicians nationwide.

Early Bird Satellite Nears Launch Ahead of Schedule

COMSAT chairman Leo D. Welch announced at a convention that the Early Bird satellite, a higher powered version of Syncom II, will launch next March. It will have 2.5 times the power and bandwidth and is seen as a forerunner to future threefold powered satellites. The launch date has moved up by nearly two years.

Surrendered parole violator from Willits jailed for payroll irregularities

Robert Douglas aged 37 of Willits surrendered to authorities for violation of parole terms after admitting payroll irregularities and bad checks cashed recently. He was jailed following the confession and is awaiting further action.

Guardianship sought in Willits school fight suit

A parent seeks Ethel Clatty as guardian ad litem in a suit by Melvin Bryce Clatty Jr. against the Willits Unified School District and officials. Filed Oct. 14 and granted Oct. 15 in Superior Court by Judge Robert Winslow, the claim alleges that Ralph Storms, a metal crafts teacher at Willits Junior High, forced Clatty Jr. and Gary Dryden to fight on Feb. 20, 1964, leaving Clatty Jr. injured and seeking $20,000 after a May 18, 1964 claim was rejected.

Grass and brush fires reported near Rancheria

Fire crews responded to two grass and brush fires at Rancheria south of Talmage. The 1:54 p.m. incident caused no damage, and the 9:52 p.m. blaze also resulted in no damage. Authorities reported no injuries.
