Conley Sentenced to Life for Double Murder
William Conley was found sane at the time of the fatal shooting of Elaine and Clifton McCool. After about five hours of deliberation the jury fixed a penalty of life imprisonment. The sanity ruling came during a noon hearing, with the jury later returning the life sentence at 9:30 p.m. Conley had pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. He faces judgment on November 5 in Superior Judge Robert Winslow's court, with David Luce prosecuting for the district attorney.
