California Highway Commission selected a four lane freeway along 8.7 miles of U S 101 from Hopland south to Crawford Ranch with a link to Lakeport Road Route 175. The plan, chosen over other options, costs about 8.8 million dollars with rights of way, plus 300 thousand for the connector and expansion to six lanes later. Betty Cantrell a 42 year old Ukiah woman who had been missing two days was found dead in a car on Pickle Road near Lake Mendocino. The coroner suspects sleeping pill overdose pending autopsy. She left a note despondent and possible intention of self harm. Survived by husband John an 11 year old son and her parents. Highway Patrol found the body after rancher reported an idle parked car. Funeral arrangements pending at Eversole Mortuary.
