Pilotless U S Recon Plane Claimed Shot Down

Chinese officials announced that a pilotless U S high altitude reconnaissance plane was shot down Sunday over south central China. The claim, praised by Marshal Lin Piao and reported by New China News Agency, noted the aircraft intruded Chinese air space and was destroyed by a People's Liberation Army unit.

Camp Fire Mail Drive Under Way in Ukiah

Ukiah reports the Camp Fire Girls annual drive kicks off by mail with options for no door-to-door solicitation. Fire Calls Report Strikes Hortense and Mendocino Area

Friday at 3 44 p m a false box alarm occurred at Hortense. Sunday at 9 29 a m a structure fire at Len Papes residence on Vis Drive near Lake Mendocino caused an estimated 10000 loss. Midnight today an assist resuscitator crew aided Virgil Watson at 1369 Talmage Road taken to Hillside Community Hospital at 10 03 a m. A dryer fire at Betty Wellards residence caused minor damage.

Wallet stolen from Sunday school teacher in Ukiah church

Betty Jean Helm 89 of Ukiah reported her Sunday school wallet disappeared after dismissal at 10 30 a m. The pastor found the wallet in the church basement with 70 dollars missing from three twenty dollar bills and one ten. Police were informed and the pastor planned to address the congregation.
