TIA Nears 1965 Goal for Ukiah TV Budget
Directors of the Television Improvement Association of Ukiah report only about 3 386 remains to be collected to meet the 1965 operating budget goal of 18 100. As of this morning's mail subscribers had turned in nearly 15 000 of the 18 000. The office at Jeffers Brothers 164 Washington Street will be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for payments of the 10 annual member ship user assessment and regular hours Mon through Sat. Payments may be made through Ukiah area TV dealers or at Redwo od Valley Shopping Center. The 18 000 goal may be reached by Sunday and if so the translator will resume sending signals from all four channels 2 4 5 and 7.

Christmas Lane Lights Turn-On Planned by Ukiah
Ukiah City Council authorized Sunday November 29 as the lighting date for Seminary Avenue and Christmas Lane to kick off the holiday season. The Ukiah Ministerial Association is finalizing plans for the turning on of the Christmas tree lights while Hal Irish returns as city attorney after illness. A variance for Thelma Durighello’s beauty shop on Observatory Avenue was approved and an ordinance on Ukiah fire zone boundaries was adopted. A refreshment stand proposal at Municipal Park was postponed pending more information from the city manager.

Jail Sentence In Lieu of Fine
Mrs. Orlin Melinda Wynant, 47, Esparto, serves 25 days in county jail for a $251 Lake County drunk driving fine. Lake County women prisoners serve here under an agreement with Sheriff Reno Bartolomie. Fred Kostick, 40, was booked at the county jail to serve 30 days or pay a $166 traffic violation fine in Fort Bragg.

A dozen Ukiah merchants and Spanish Mountain TV sponsor a closed circuit home telecast of the Clay Liston heavyweight title rematch in Boston. Johnson Diaz Ordaz talks to fight poverty in hemisphere
President Johnson and Mexican President-elect Gustavo Diaz Ordaz held informal talks at the LBJ ranch near Johnson City Texas pledging to jointly combat poverty disease and hunger in the Western Hemisphere. After the barbecue they flew to the Scharnhorst ranch for a tour before a business meeting and Johnson planned to return to Washington Sunday.

Flier Rescued After Night On South Atlantic Raft
A downed Cessna 182 flyer, Lowell Thonpsor of Spokane Washington, spent a night adrift on a 20 man life raft in the South Atlantic after ditching while flying from Recife Brazil to Ascension Islands. A cargo freighter Robin Sherwagdt rescued him at daybreak and reported he was tired but in good condition.
