Cepeda Named Unanimous NL MVP In 1966 Poll

Orlando Cepeda was voted the first unanimous National League MVP by all 20 Baseball Writers Association of America members who cast ballots. The Cardinals first baseman led his team to the pennant with a .325 average, 25 homers and 110 RBIs. Cepeda praised his Puerto Rico home and planned winter ball in Puerto Rico before returning to the United States.

Ukiah Cross Country Faces North Bay League Finals At Home

Ukiah High School prepares for the North Bay League combined finals at Dan Foley Park with Varsity Jayvee and Frosh Soph divisions. John Stephens of Vallejo led the Vallejo dual with 10 26 as Ukiah runners Ben Jensen and others posted strong times. The team hopes familiarity with the course and traffic patterns will aid in a solid showing against tougher competition.

Mira to Get Tested for Niners Reinjury

San Francisco coach plans workouts for George Mira on Thursday and Friday to assess his knee before Sunday’s game at Washington. If Mira is unavailable, rookie Dave Olerich from San Francisco will join the squad. Monty Stickles is out for the season with a forearm injury.
