Southern California earned near unanimous top billing in the UPI coaches poll after an 8-0 record following a 31-12 victory over California. Purdue also received a first place vote as other Top 10 teams shifted positions with Oregon State upsetting UCLA and Notre Dame climbing. Minnesota and Alabama shared 10th place after decisive wins.
Ukiah heads to Dan Foley Park in Vallejo for the 1967 North Bay League combined meet starting at 3:30 p.m. Ukiah riders aim to place high against Napa Vallejo Santa Rosa and rivals. Ted Harryman must rebound from a strain to lead a strong pack across varsity and junior divisions.
The San Francisco Giants revealed their 1968 home and road schedule with opening day set for April 9 against the New York Mets at Candlestick Park. The 81 home games include 13 weekend attractions and four Sunday double headers, plus a Fourth of July game vs Atlanta.
Los Angeles hosts Oakland in NHL action after an upset of Detroit. The Kings lead the division 5-4-3 with 13 points, while Oakland sits 2-7-3. Bill Flett led LA with a hat trick in the win, and Toronto comes to town later this week at the Sports Arena.
UPI reports Saints quarterback Gary Cuozzo is enrolled at the University of Tennessee Dental School, pursuing studies while continuing NFL duties.
Quarterback George Mira may be activated by the San Francisco 49ers to replace Monty Stickles who broke his left forearm and will miss the year. If Mira is ready, he could back up tight end and join the lineup for the game at Washington.
National League reports 15 015 471 paid admissions in 1966 setting an all time attendance record. The prior mark of 13 581 136 stood from 1963.
Ukiah Freshman football season ends early after Cloverdale cancels the Thursday or Friday game due to a small Jayvee squad. Co coaches Campbell and Aiken finish with six wins one loss and a five game Frosh championship run.
New York UPI release lists top college football teams with first place votes and win loss records. Southern Cal leads with 8-0 and 34 first place votes, followed by Tennessee and NC State tied at 8-0 and 246 points, UCLA 6-0-1, Purdue 6-1, Indiana 7-0, Wyoming 8-0, Notre Dame 5-2, Oklahoma 5-1, and Minnesota 6-1 in the top tier, with Alabama, Georgia, Oregon State, Houston, Miami Florida, Texas, and others in the next group.
Bill Augusta rolled nine consecutive strikes en route to a 278 high game and a 657 series in the Monday Night Majors at Yokayo Bowl. His House of Gamer team lost 3-1 to Greatt's Brakes as Par Ducci Wines rose to 18-9-4. Ukiah Food Products and other teams hold 17-11 records while Russia’s historic claim to Alaska is noted.
