Ukiah stabbing and car chase end in suspect's escape
Ukiah police hunt 37 year old Van Dean Payne after he allegedly stabbed former girlfriend’s escort, kidnapped her, and rammed a pursuing patrol car at speeds up to 90 mph. Pinto, 43, is in satisfactory condition at Ukiah General. Loretta Jaco, 32, suffered minor injuries. Payne fled after overturning his car at Cox Schrader overpass.

Small Fires Keep CDF Crews Busy on Sunday
California Division of Forestry crews battled three small fires on Sunday. A 2 acre blaze near Seaside north of Fort Bragg started when a camper failed to extinguish a fire and burned coastal driftwood, extinguished by 4:50 p.m. A separate one acre fire in Jackson State Forest on Road 500 remains under investigation as crews mop up. A final brush and slash fire along Branbscomb Road east of Brancomb burned about an acre, extinguished by 11 p.m.
