Kissinger to Damascus one final attempt to salvage truce

Secretary of State Kissinger plans one last trip to Damascus to push a troop disengagement accord on the Golan Heights after meeting with Israeli leaders. He said he would return tonight, aiming to secure clarifications for a final yes or no from Israel and Syria.

Body of Woman Found In Lake Near Nice After Car Gone Off Ramp

Boys swimming near Wayne's Resort in Clear Lake discovered a cave containing a body after locating a car submerged about eight feet deep, tied to a missing woman case from Nice. Audrey McAlear, 63, was reported missing April 4 by her son Robert and is believed to have driven off the boat ramp into the lake. funeral arrangements are pending at Jones Mortuary, Lakeport.

Ukiahi Senior Scholars to be Honored at Awards Night

Outstanding Ukiahi senior scholars including eight Governor's Scholar recipients will be honored at the First Ukiahi Senior Awards Night tomorrow at 7 30 in Chessall gym. More than two dozen scholarships totaling over 18000 will be awarded Wednesday. Governor's Cup requires mostly A grades with at most three B grades in the last three years. Bank of America scholars and other local awards will also be announced with guest speaker Dr. Thomas MacMillan at Mendocino College.

Bomb Blast Sets Off Anti Fascist Rally in Brescia

A time bomb exploded as thousands gathered in Brescia's Piazza della Loggia for an anti Fascist rally. Police report at least six dead and more than 40 injured, seven critically. The attack occurred during a labor speech as rain-soaked streets filled with pools of blood.

Supreme Court asked to fast track Nixon tapes ruling

The Supreme Court gave Nixon until Thursday to reply to Jaworski's request for a quick ruling on extra Watergate tapes and documents. Ukiah Hosts Public Hearing On General Plan Developments

Ukiah city council holds a special meeting at 8 p.m. in the Veterans building to hear public input on the preliminary Ukiah General Plan prepared by Lampman and Associates. The plan aims to guide future growth toward about 27 000 residents in Ukiah and 20 000 in the greater area within a 50 000 acre planning zone, with negotiations on open space, annexations, and transportation. The Mendocino County Board of Realtors and Doris Spencer warn the plan could affect property rights and the county-city sphere of influence.

Record attendance at Lake Mendocino over the weekend

Attendance at Lake Mendocino broke all records during a three day holiday weekend with an estimated 93,199 visitors based on 3.2 persons per car. Local and state officials provided special patrols as crowds exceeded facilities but no major incidents were reported. Facilities upgrades include paving parking and a 50 foot floating dock while Corps bids move to asphalt the dam top and improve access to area campsites.
