Chi City and L A Cars Win Drag Titles

West Angeles driver Mike Sorokin and Phil Hobbs of Chicago won the final dragster races in Bakersfield. Sorokin claimed the fuel eliminator title with 7.74 seconds at 196.06 mph, earning $5,650 with partners in the car The Surfers. Hobbs edged to top gasoline eliminator in 8.53 seconds at 183.66 mph, defeating Bakersfield’s Jim Warren who fouled with a red light after 11.86 seconds. Runner-up was Bob Keith of San Jose at 8.56 seconds and 182.16 mph.

Oslo reports Norway captured five of the thirty gold medals in the world skiing meet, highlighting strong performances across events and placing the host nation among the top achievers.

Russia dominates world hockey with 29-1 record story

Russia swept to a 10-1 win over East Germany as part of a 29-1 goal run to lead the world hockey championships. Canada and Czechoslovakia also rolled to big victories while Sweden dropped 6-1 to the United States amid allegations of late night revelry. Heuga Wins Slalom Crown At Loveland Cup

Jazy Sets Indoor 1500m World Mark In Dual Meet

Michael Jazy of France, holder of the world mile record, clocked 3 minutes 40.7 seconds to lower the indoor 1500 meters world best in a dual meet against West Germany, slicing nine tenths of a second off the previous record by Tom O'Hara of the United States.

Youngster Vaults 7 Feet Indoors To Top Record

Teen pole vaulter Bob Seagren and 11-year-old Bill Gaines led a record heavy AAU meet in Albuquerque. Seagren vaulted 17% feet indoors to surpass the old indoor mark and Gaines tied the 60-yard dash time of 4.9 seconds, joining other world records set by Wyomin Tyus Edith McGuire Charolette Cook and Szabo. Saari Paces Trojan Title Run In AAWU Meet

Olympian Roy Saari of El Segundo led USC to its sixth straight AAWU Conference swimming title by winning three events and scoring 38 points. He captured the 1650 yard freestyle with a 17:27.8 time on the final night as USC totaled 264 16 points to beat UCLA 212 percent for second place.
