Potter Valley edges Lower Lake 63 to 49 in a hard fought semifinal then crushes Covelo 83 to 38 to reach the consolation final. El Molino dominates Fort Bragg 65 to 54 while El Molino and PV wax strong.
The world heavyweight title bout between Cassius Clay and Ernie Terrell is tentatively set for March 29 at Maple Leaf Gardens with Main Bouts Inc handling television and Maple Leaf Gardens promoting the live gate. Toronto officials and boxing interests press for a definite deal amid Toronto bids and rival offers from other cities.
West Angeles driver Mike Sorokin and Phil Hobbs of Chicago won the final dragster races in Bakersfield. Sorokin claimed the fuel eliminator title with 7.74 seconds at 196.06 mph, earning $5,650 with partners in the car The Surfers. Hobbs edged to top gasoline eliminator in 8.53 seconds at 183.66 mph, defeating Bakersfield’s Jim Warren who fouled with a red light after 11.86 seconds. Runner-up was Bob Keith of San Jose at 8.56 seconds and 182.16 mph.
Oslo reports Norway captured five of the thirty gold medals in the world skiing meet, highlighting strong performances across events and placing the host nation among the top achievers.
Russia swept to a 10-1 win over East Germany as part of a 29-1 goal run to lead the world hockey championships. Canada and Czechoslovakia also rolled to big victories while Sweden dropped 6-1 to the United States amid allegations of late night revelry. Sweden’s chances dimmed after a Saturday loss and a 2-1 mark. Investigations into a Ljubljana night club incident heated the ongoing controversy.
North Ukiah Little League managers coaches and sponsors will meet Tuesday at 7 30 PM at the Ukiah Police Department to plan tryouts discuss league schedules and other matters. Loveland Basin Colorado United Press International report shows Heuga of Colorado narrowly defeating teammate Bill Kidd by one second to win the Loveland Cup in men’s slalom. Women's results list Jean Saubert of Utah topping Karn Korfanta, with Auseklis Maresh Corum among top finishers for Colorado. Chilean men placed 13th through 17th and women placed 9th to 14th as team trains at Vail for next season world meet in Portillo Chile.
California Department of Fish and Games urged forest practice rules before the Coast Range Pine and Fir Forest District Committee in Redding. Proposals include a 50 foot stream protection zone, minimized disturbance of non merchantable vegetation, and limits on stream bed crossings to curb erosion and prevent spoil dumping into waterways.

Art Walker twice raised the indoor triple jump world mark to 54-9% feet.
Montreal Canadiens blank the Chicago Black Hawks 1-0 as Claude La Rose scores in the second period. Gump Worsley earns the shutout after stopping 33 shots while Claude Provost locks down Bobby Hull. Canadiens lead Chicago by three points. Maple Leafs and Red Wings win to affect standings.
Elmer Morrié Elmer and his shadow Bill Pauli lead Potter Valley’s center in being named to the Official Potter Valley Invitational All Tourney squad. Other selections include Gordon Reese and Mike Whisler of Lower Lake, Tom Brawles and Anderson Valley, Glynn Fitzgerald and Mike Gummerus of Fort Bragg, Phil Lacefield of Kelseyville, and Paul Cavanaugh and Jim Costello of El Molino.
Olympian Roy Saari of El Segundo led USC to its sixth straight AAWU Conference swimming title by winning three events and scoring 38 points. He captured the 1650 yard freestyle with a 17:27.8 time on the final night as USC totaled 264 16 points to beat UCLA 212 percent for second place.
