Ukiah Custom and Competitive Car Show Planned for March 19 20

The Ukiah Custom and Competitive Car Show, March 19 20 at Carl Purdy Hall, 12th District Fairgrounds, promises top cars and speed with over two dozen on display and potential to reach 50. Notable machines include a 253 MPH Bonneville roadster by B and N Automotive Sacramento and Johnny Batto’s Sling Shot with 200 mph quarter mile. Admission 1.50 adults 1.00 students under 12 free with adult.

Gym Giants Clinch Cage Title In Ukiah High Play

The Gym Giants sealed the girls basketball title with a 44 to 12 win over the Tulips. Barbara Sten scored 24 and Nancy Mosna added 11 as Amy Wada and Kathy Easterbrook contributed offensively. Defensively the Giants held strong and shot well sealing the championship.

NCAA Cage Field Set For Western Regional Showdown

United Press International reports the NCAA Western Regional field is set for UCLA at Pauley Pavilion with Houston and Oregon State on one side and Utah against the University of Pacific on the other. Houston led by Joe Hamood's 23 points, 22-5, defeated Colorado State 82-76 in Wichita, while top teams and ratings are revealed as the Northwest and West Coast contenders brace for finals.

Milwaukee Brav es Antitrust Trial Hearings Open

Milwaukee economist Robert Nathan testified that moving the Braves to Atlanta could cost Milwaukee $18 million yearly to the local economy. He helped prepare a $30,000 study on Milwaukee as a potential major league city and said the area had the economy and growth to support a club. The trial, now in its seventh day, also heard from Bill Aberly about attendance and field conditions.
