Mendocino planning chief faces Grand Jury criticism

Mendocino County Grand Jury urges immediate change in planning department administration. Pomolita bandsmen return from Disneyland with invitation to return

Pomolita Ukiah junior high band and flag team traveled in three Pearson charter buses to Disneyland for the bicentennial parade. Director Ed Singer returned with a Disneyland memento and an invite for next year, praising the seven and eight grade musicians for their effort. The 69 band members and 25 banners performed in a four wide front and earned enthusiastic applause from spectators. No discipline issues were reported, and the group plans to further represent their city in future trips.

Mendocino College trustees set open meeting agenda

The Mendocino College board will hold a 4:30 p.m. open meeting after a 4 p.m. closed personnel session. The agenda includes state memos, liberal studies reports, new courses, and a special studies program on the growing food crisis. Also on tap are salary progress reviews, trustee-area redefining, health care upgrades, and a potential resignation from Trustee Lou Fortin with a July 1 effective date. A site-finding committee progress report is expected as well.

Ukiah Unified board to discuss recreation budget plans

Ukiah Unified School District board tonight at 7 30 p m at the district office on School and Henry streets will hear a report on the proposed city district recreation program and budget for 1975 76 plus plans for funding and long range revitalization. The meeting also covers potential separation of Potter Valley from Ukiah Unified, insurance and student coverage for 75 76, school hours and attendance boundaries, the North Coast Opportunities capacity building request, and approval of the draft 2 tentative 1975 76 budget including a closed personnel litigation center.

Death toll reported in Cambodian and South Vietnamese clashes

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said reports indicate a very high civilian death toll in Cambodia after the Communist takeover. He cited fighting along the border with South Vietnam and on offshore islands, including near the Mayaguez incident site, and noted civilians suffer vast casualties from evacuations ordered by the new regime.

Controversy over trapping to control coyotes

A public hearing is set for July 2 before the board of supervisors to review an environmental impact report on the county predator control program. The EIR, filed after a Defenders of Wildlife suit, analyzes trapping impacts on non target wildlife and livestock losses, noting limited effect on overall coyote numbers and exploring alternatives such as anti fertility, repellents, fencing, and livestock insurance.
