Too Much Vernon Law Shuts Out Giants 6-0

Vernon Law dominated the San Francisco Giants, pitching a complete game with four hits and six strikeouts as Pittsburgh Pirates blanked the Giants 6-0. Willie Stargell homered twice, Bill Virdon walked, and Law drove in a run with a homer off Gaylord Perry, marking Law’s third shutout of the season and keeping Pittsburgh atop the series.

Americans win multiple events at Swiss swim meet

Three American teens led by Cathy Ferguson of Burflank California captured six events in a Tuesday night pool meet in Prne Switzerland. Ferguson won the 400 meter medley the 100 meter breaststroke and the 100 meter backstroke. Mike Austin and others claimed victories in relays and the 200 meter freestyle before ailing Lake Oswego swimmer was noted.

Black Bart Days Parade and Festivities Planned July Fourth

Redwood Valley gears up for Black Bart Days July 3 4 with a kid friendly picnic style Fourth of July, a July 3 dance at the Grange hall featuring the Hi Fives, door prize saddle, hay rides, and a large July 4 parade sponsored by the Redwood Valley Riders featuring 12 divisions plus eight horse subdivisions. Volcanic Eruption of Tambora Shocks World in 1815

The eruption on Sumbawa near Java marked the greatest volcanic event witnessed by man. Explosions lasted a week and were heard some 1,000 miles away, ejecting 24 cubic miles of material into the atmosphere and causing three days of darkness within a 300 mile radius.

TV Benefit Game Aids Colt League Playoffs

Five players from each of the four Ukiah Colt League teams will form the Colt baseball squad to face the Ukiah Merchants Saturday night at Anton Stadium. The 7 39 p.m. game supports the Colt league which will host Western Division playoffs August 11 to 15. Gil Fiedler and President Wally George issued ticket books to the Colt teams, each to sell at 1 00 per ticket. A last minute reshuffle in Ukiah Dolphins Swim Club schedules moves Saturdays meet from Arden Park to Hamilton Air Force Base. Arden Park canceled due to transport issues. Giants Sign Eight More From 1960 Draft
