Johannesburg massacre at downtown store shocks city
In downtown Johannesburg three black gunmen opened fire at John Orrs depot killing two whites and injuring a third who later died. A grenade was also thrown during a tea break as police named Maj. Gen. Willem Kotze a key official.

Escape ends as James Earl Ray is captured in Tennessee
James Earl Ray, confessed King assassin, was found by bloodhounds after a 54 hour escape in the Cumberland Mountains. Donald Ray Caylor was arrested in Oak Ridge and authorities expected Donald Shelton to be cornered nearby. Ray and co fugitives were returned to Brushy Mountain Prison after the dramatic breakout from a pipe ladder escape Friday night.

Boonville Man Hurt In Fall From Moving Car
