Controversial Millionaire Patrick Dies in California Plane Crash

William Penn Patrick, founder of Holiday Magic cosmetics, died at 43 in a vintage plane crash near his Lake County estate. Also killed was Christian Hagert, director of Holiday Magic in Helsinki. Patrick had faced legal battles over the firm’s marketing methods and once publicly suggested hanging Earl Warren. Survived by his wife Mary and two children.

Redwood Valley Eighth Graders to Receive Diplomas Tonight

Tonight 134 Redwood Valley junior high eighth graders graduate at 6:30 at the school. Erin Eichler will give the commencement address with student speakers Craig Willcut and Brooks Lockhart. The Redwood Valley School Band will perform the processional and recessional as diplomas are awarded by Ukiah board member Virginia Maurer.

Lake County arrests include heroin and marijuana charges

Lake County deputies arrested three men over the weekend on drug related charges. Robert Trapp 40 of Lucerne was charged after heroin and paraphernalia were found following a tip leading to a stop on Siegler Canyon Road. Guy Hauff 19 of San Francisco was charged with possession of a dangerous drug after 123 phenobarbital pills were found in his vehicle. James Ramey 21 of Lakeport faced charges for possession of marijuana and driving with an open liquor container after a traffic stop on Highway 20 Rodman cutoff.

Willitsite Woman Faces Federal Gun Charge

A Willits resident, Mrs. James D. Boggs, 40, is held in San Mateo County jail awaiting arraignment on a federal count of attempting to smuggle a loaded revolver aboard a San Francisco to Phoenix flight. Local police, led by Willits Chief George Koehler, investigate.

Fire at G P plant injures worker and disrupts production

An employee named Mike Kelley, 29, was taken to Ukiah General Hospital with minor burns after a fire and explosion at 3 am Sunday in the milling and drying area of the Georgia Pacific particleboard plant on N State Street. Plant manager Dick Krull said damage would be repaired by this afternoon and production would resume. G P firefighters with help from Ukiah fire department controlled the blaze with three pieces of equipment.

Fire calls report two incidents near residence and street

At 12 04 p m a fire alarm at 1525 Talmage Road, the home of Ivan Chess, noted ceiling damage around an electric heater vent. At 2 35 p m an electrical fire on Hazel and Maple Streets involved two hot wires blown together by wind on a city power pole with no damage reported.

Cotati Police Chief Gray Found Guilty In Abalone Case

Cotati Police Chief Thomas Gray was found guilty Friday of taking over the limit of abalone and fined 65 dollars after a retrial in the Arena Justice Court. The judge accepted testimony from Fish and Game and a former officer, with council members debating city governance during the same session.
