Five seniors formed Potter Valley's first high school graduating class in a privately funded, parent supported program. Devonshire Douglas served as host, Jeanne Parmley sang, and Nancy and Paul Warden led, with Sharon Todd and Marcella Parmley also contributing. Principal Vincent Peluso welcomed attendees as Rev. Merton Haskell gave the benediction.

A summer kick off dance and rock concert by the Bronze Hog will run Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Home Arts building at Ukiah Fairgrounds. The group features Don Connley a Ukiah High graduate, a pianist with a grand piano, African drum artist Ed Farmer, and two guitarists. Mendocino Sheriff Promotes Art Moe to Captain
Lt Art Moe of the Mendocino County sheriff's office is promoted to captain in charge of the criminal division. Moe joined in October 1961, served as field deputy until 1965, was juvenile officer for a year, sergeant for three, then lieutenant in 1969 overseeing personnel and training. He and wife Kathy and son Jeff reside in Ukiah.

Unfair to ask about arrests bill advances
The California State Assembly approved a bill making it an unfair employment practice for employers to ask about arrest records of prospective workers in a 41 to 32 vote though it was held for reconsideration. Desert bighorn ram rescued by lifeguard in San Diego
A 200-pound desert bighorn ram found near Chocolate Mountains was carried to safety by San Diego lifeguard Joe Barnett after dragging and carrying the ailing animal downhill. Veterinarian Michael McCoy reported the ram receiving intravenous fluids and treatment for a massive infection, with improvement as it can now track a person with its eyes. The ram’s eventual release is hoped, though recovery remains long.

Survived by widow Marcella, two children Patricia Katovich and Bob Mulcrone, a foster son, sister Irene Hallman, brother Harold Maurer, and the late Richard Maurer Jr., remembered in the city’s major football trophy.
