California overcrossing safety bill screens pedestrian bridges

A 60 day study in three southern California counties found 175 objects thrown onto freeways with 100 at pedestrian overcrossings. The bill signs into law requires screening of all state freeway overcrossings where pedestrians are allowed with $15 million cost for 1,542 structures. The widow of a truck driver killed by a 30 pound rock praised the measure and gathered 3000 signatures urging action.
