Modest Walnut Crops Helped Library Finances in 1917
A Ukiah Public Library history note recalls 1917 fire that destroyed books and homes and led the library to sell walnuts from its property to raise funds. Walnut sales began in 1918, raising small sums, while 1918 flu closures halted juvenile lending.
