Koufax Strikes Out 13 As Dodgers Top Phillies

Sandy Koufax hurled 13 strikeouts in a 6-3 Dodgers win over Philadelphia, sliding Los Angeles within two games of the Giants. Moon and Roseboro homered, while Koufax allowed only two other hits through eight innings.

Giants Open Three Game Series at Cubs in Chicago

San Francisco Giants, riding a winning streak and leading Los Angeles by two, opened a three game set with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Billy O'Dell was named to start against veteran Bob Buhr as injuries circling Davenport Alou and others affect roster. Alou remains a 340 hitter and is penciled in to start, while Haller and Westrym provide key support and defense behind the plate.

Ace Golf Round At Ukiah Muni Yields Hole In One

Don Tracy of Ukiah fired a hole in one on the 200 yard par three third hole at Ukiah Municipal Golf Course yesterday. With a five iron and four witnesses the 25 year old insurance investigator celebrated with friends including Tom Goforth Bill Cross Judge Fred Goss and Bob Robinson. Had he waited until today election day bars would be closed until after polls opening.

St Mary’s Blooper Ball Routs Grace Lutheran 6–0

St Mary’s Church team opened the Ukiah Blooper Ball season with a 6–0 shutout of Grace Lutheran. Duane Grillie hit the season’s first homer as the offense produced two runs in each of the last three innings. The league, coed and popular, plays at Giorno Park with single games Mondays and a Saturday doubleheader.
