Service Clubs Win Pitching Battle 3-1

The Service Club defeated the Auto Dealers 3-1 in a pitching duel in South Littl League action. Earlier, Brownie's Market beat Anton Jets 21-40, while Auto Dealers had defeated Brownie's Market 13-56 in a prior backet game with 15 hits. Paul Maurer pitched for the Service Clubs in a decisive win aided by four Christie batting drives.

Dolphin Club Swim Practice Set Tomorrow

The Dolphin Swim Club invites boys and girls up to 18 to its first practice tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Ukiah Municipal. Old members should bring filled membership blanks and the $3 membership and insurance fee if possible. New joiners with blanks are welcome to sign up then.

Cepeda's Booming Bat Beats Braves in Giants 7-Run Victory

Orlando Cepeda drove in seven runs with two homers a double and a single as the San Francisco Giants overwhelmed Lew Burdette and the Milwaukee Braves 15-1. Cepeda's two run homer in the fourth cut the lead and a three run blast in the fifth gave the Giants the edge. Orlando doubled with the bases loaded to drive in two more in the eighth. The win trims Milwaukee's first place lead and tightens NL standings as other pennant chases unfold.

Fight Promoter In Serious Shape

LOS ANGELES UPS Promoter Jackie Leonard, 38, remained in serious condition with a brain concussion and partial paralysis after a Wednesday night attack. Police doubling efforts to catch his attackers. Leonard promoted at Hollywood Legion Stadium and had testified two weeks earlier that mobsters sought control of welterweight champion Don Jordan and had been threatened before refusing a deal. He and Jordan’s manager Don Negseth had been under police protection since the testimony. Leonard had received harassing calls for weeks.
