Three Men Win NAIA Track Title for Winston-Salem State
Winston-Salem State College, a small school of about 200 enrolled with a three-man traveling track team, won the NAIA small college track title by one point over East Texas State. Champion Elias Gilbert swept the 220 yard low hurdles 120 yard highs and 400 meter highs, becoming the meet's first triple winner. Teammate Godfrey Moore won the hop step and jump and placed second in the broad jump, while Russell Rogers finished second in the 120 yard high hurdles. East Texas State took two firsts but finished second overall with 45 points to Winston-Salem's 56.
