Oil spills harm salmon in Alaska study findings
University of Alaska zoologist Dr. James E. Morrow reports that as little as 1-10 teaspoon of Prudhoe Bay crude per quart of water can kill 80 to 90 percent of salmon within four days under certain air exposure. The research, using silver salmon and planned sockeye tests, notes behavioral changes, blood chemistry shifts, and a volatile oil component driving mortality.
