Ukiah to review 1971 72 city budget tonight

Ukiah City Council will hear a preliminary 1971 72 budget presented by City Manager Lyell Cash. Ukiah Unified seeks new assistant superintendent position

A screening committee will review 20 to 30 applications for the Ukiah Unified school district assistant superintendent role in charge of educational services. The board hopes to appoint a successor to Dr. Quentin Bryan by late June, with final interviews for the top three or four candidates.

Study grant funds approved for new Mendocino jail planning

A federal grant of 18 949 dollars funded under the Omnibus Safe Streets Act will pay for a year long planning study of a proposed Mendocino County jail. Sheriff Reno Bartolomie leads the project with Beltrami as county representative and the auditor as financial director. Matching in kind county support is planned. After the study a county bond vote is expected to fund construction by 1974 or 1975 and remodel the existing courthouse jail into offices.

Donaldson ranking officer to be charged in Vietnam murders

Brig. Gen. John W. Donaldson faces murder and assault charges for six South Vietnamese civilians and two others in late 1968 to early 1969 while commanding the 11th Infantry Brigade Americal Division. Lt. Col. William J. McCloskey shares related charges. My Lai ties noted but not alleged here.

Nixon warns Russia on treaty sparking new arms race

Corona pleads innocent in mass killings arraignment

Juan V Corona, 37, a farm labor contractor, pleads innocent to 10 counts of murder in a closed arraignment for the slayings of 10 of 23 migrant workers whose bodies were found along the Feather River.
