Northern Sonoma County Annexation Study Proposed

A board resolution by Fort Bragg supervisor August J. Avila urges immediate study to annex Northern Sonoma County into Mendocino County. California forestry board rescinds huge redwood clear cutting plan

The California Board of Forestry reversed its approval of Simpson Timber Co. cutting 145,796 acres in redwood country after protests from conservationists and lawmakers. The firm cited embarrassment to Reagan administration officials and said it will file a new logging plan, possibly favoring artificial reseeding over natural regeneration.

Rail strike costs farmers millions daily in California

The Council of California Growers says the Southern Pacific Railroad walkout costs farmers about 3 million dollars daily, with Sunkist Citrus Growers estimating losses at 3 million dollars weekly. The UTU strike could add 8.3 million dollars per day to related industries, as Santa Fe and Western Pacific move crops SP cannot handle and UTU plans a Friday strike against Santa Fe.
