Westport Subdividers Sued Over 2 Million Floodlan d Access

Georgia Pacific Corp files a 2 100 000 property damage suit in Superior Court against Westport Beach Company American Land Systems Inc George E Isaacs Jack Speizel Don Frank and Associates Bank of California National Association Solomon Court and Odessky and Does 1 100. GP alleges defendants blocked and destroyed egress and ingress roads to its timber land near Westport and relocated roads to aid lot buyers in a subdivision They claim GP had four easements from Highway 1 and still can not access its land The suit accuses defendants of false statements to buyers asserting GP had only one road and warns of ongoing disputes with innocent buyers over clouded titles

Willits city faces $8500 damage claim over grade change

Willits officials hear a claim by Galen Hathaway on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Severo Gutierrez seeking 8500 for alleged property damage from a grade change that made a garage unusable and diverted water onto their property. The claim targets John Hacker as the agent responsible.

Ukiah records coldest day of the year and winter season

An early morning low of 23 degrees today marks the chilliest day of the 1971-72 winter in Ukiah with an 11 am reading of 39 degrees. The season’s 12.71 inches of rainfall trails the 22.35 inches seen by January 4, 1971, despite the cold spell.

Hopeful outlook for Mendocino State Hospital plan

An ad hoc committee studying alternate uses for Mendocino State Hospital met Monday to hear Dr. J M Stubblebine of the Department of Mental Hygiene discuss a Sacramento visit. Delegates reported strong cooperation from Stubblebine who said future hospital programs depend on community needs and support. Local leaders from Ukiah praised cooperation as the group explores new programs and economic strategies with county city and CE SA involvement.

Lawmakers or orators clash over session limits in California

California lawmakers opened their 1972 session by denying any override of Gov. Reagan's 157 vetoes from 1971 and moving to curb year long sessions. Assembly GOP Leader Monagan proposed two year sessions capped at 200 days and abolishing veto sessions, while Teale urged February recess for budget work. Moscone and Marks pushed for a six month limit on sessions as Democrats pressed reapportionment fights.

Clearcut Logging Forum Set at Ukiah High Theater

An open discussion on clearcut logging will feature Sierra Club Forest Industry Fish and Game and U S Forest Service representatives this Thursday at 7 30 p m in Ukiah High School Little Theater. The forum aims to improve layman understanding amid national debate over forest management and federal timberlands with audience Q A and panelists including Gordy Robinson John Keene George Coombs and Ken Bain. Mendocino DA seeks more staff amid heavy workload

Mendocino County District Attorney Duncan James says the office is hard pressed and needs at least one more attorney plus additions to investigators. He notes the department handled 202 trials last year across superior and justice courts, with staff often working weekends and 50 plus hours weekly without overtime. James praises his team despite criticism over narcotics raid involvement and stresses county residents’ willingness to sacrifice for a professional law enforcement community.
