Blanda tops AFL scoring title on kicking alone

George Blanda became the first AFL player to win the league scoring title solely on placekicking finishing with 116 points from 56 of 59 conversions and 20 of 30 field goals. Daryle Lamonica led in passing with 3 228 yards and 30 TDs as Oakland enjoyed its best season. Lonborg Faces Knee Surgery After Skiing Injury

Jim Lonborg the Red Sox right hander will undergo knee ligament surgery at Sancta Maria Hospital after a skiing accident on the West Coast. Doctors Dr. Thomas Tierney and Dr. John McGillicuddy expect a routine procedure with no complications, aiming for a return before the season. Lonborg signed a 1968 contract for about $50,000 earlier this month.

Cal Gymnasts Lead Winter Classic At Berkeley

UC Berkeley gymnasts Sid Freudenstein and Dan Millman topped the all around in the California Winter Gymnastics Classic. Freudenstein won the all around with 106.85 points while Millman had 105.8 for fourth. LA’s Steve Hugg was second with 106.25. Bob Lynn was third at 106.0. Karen Galloway of Sacramento won the women’s division with 35.55. runner up was Sandra Hartley.
