Auto Agency Safe Job Yields 924 Burglary Stolen Safe
Burglars hit Daniels Harlowe on N State Street Christmas Day using the same tactics as prior jobs at Beamer's Volkswagen and Galvin's Chevrolet. A 1500 pound safe and contents were stolen from the auto agency after entering through a window and lifting the safe with a floor jack onto a pickup. They opened the safe three miles west of the highway on Low Gap Road. Buzz Harlowe reported a 924.86 loss. Police found the pickup and burned safe at 9 am on a ranch road near Low Gap. Highway Patrol and sheriff aided road blocks. Police Chief Donn Saulsbury directed the search from a Smith Flying Service helicopter.

Edler Gleave 18 of McKinleyville lost control on Highway 101 north of Willits and overturned. Charlotte Chase 15 of Arcata suffered moderate injuries and three Dunsing children from Cloverdale were minor injuries.

Five Die In Fiery Freeway Crash
