Suspect Held Over French American Cleaners Burglary

Harold Couch, 24, former Redwood Valley resident and Leavenworth parolee, is jailed in Seattle after a weekend burglary at the French American Cleaners. He confessed to the Seattle arrest and faces charges from recent Oakland and Seattle incidents, with a federal sentence pending at Leavenworth. He previously burglarized the same cleaners four years ago and had probation in this county.

Minor collision near Willits injures three drivers

A foggy Thursday morning collision just south of Willits involved Thomas Carmichael of Santa Rosa and Walter Warnecke of Willits. Elbert King of Vallejo, a Carmichael passenger, sustained minor injuries. Patrolman Roy Burton cited Carmichael for driving without lights in fog and Warnecke for no license and turning left in front of the Carmichael car.

Rotary Christmas Party Features Holy Land Films

Ukiah Rotarians and their wives, numbering 126, enjoyed a luncheon program at the Presbyterian church social hall. Three clergymen presented the event with Rev. Robert Groves as chairman. Rev. Father Celestine Quinlan discussed Christmas observance. Mr. Ira J. Porter and family showed color slides of the Holy Land including Bethlehem and Jerusalem, plus views of Damascus. Harley Branson led carols as Rev. Robert Read accompanied on piano.

VFW Wins Wrestling License for Ukiah Area

The State Athletic Commission granted a license to Ukiah post Veterans of Foreign Wars to stage wrestling and boxing in the city. Commander Lawrence Von Schmltz told members at last night’s meeting. Louie Zaina and Robert Guidi appeared before the board in San Francisco on December 15 to present the application, which was approved shortly after. The Post plans events through spring with possible boxing expansion and Mal kovich Bros. of San Francisco, northern California matchmakers, arranging fights in Ukiah at Carl Pur.

County Jail Inmates To Have Holiday Dinner

Across highways railroads and airports brisk Christmas travel filled terminals as mild nationwide temperatures dampened demand for a white Christmas. Officials warned of a projected 370 traffic fatalities from 6 p m tonight to midnight Sunday but many travelers pressed ahead. In Dallas a ticket agent noted demand for tickets to unfamiliar destinations, signaling the last minute rush.
