Fort Bragg waitress Veneta Fischer settled her personal injury suit against James Masolini operator of the Tip Top Cafe Fort Bragg out of court. The $1500 agreement ended the case which had been scheduled for trial before Superior Judge Lilburn Gibson. Damages sought totaled $25,638 including wages, medical and dental costs and general damages. Burke and Rawles represented the plaintiff. Mannon, Braaier and Bell the defendant.

Two Ukiah homes faced chimney fires on Christmas Eve due to excess gift wrapping near fireplaces. Weekend Crash Series Leaves Several Minor Injuries
Three weekend accidents produced minor injuries and sought a fleeing driver who collided with a car door on Ava drive near Calpella. George Sossaman of Laytonville stopped, but a southbound vehicle failed to clear the door and struck it as it passed. Patrolman James Ortwein set a roadblock for the hit and run, but the driver remained at large. In another crash, William Cline of San Francisco wrecked at Cold Creek bridge after speeding. he was hospitalized under Dr. Zbitnoff care. A dense fog incident caused a head on collision near Laytonville injuring Clifford Caton. Patrolman Glenn Swope investigated. Also noted, Marine Pfc. Edgar H. Johnson, son of Covelo residents, serves in Japan with the 12th Marines artillery regiment in the 3rd Marine Division at Camp McNair.

Zodak Calloway of Eureka died at his home after being injured in a December 20 crash twelve miles north of Willits. He was found badly injured in his car after hitting a bridge railing near Longvale around 4 AM and transported to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits. Calloway worked for the State Division of Forestry at Fortuna.
