Truman in serious condition at Kansas City hospital

Former President Harry S. Truman, age 88, remains in very serious condition with weak heart and restless sleep. Doctors say vital signs are fairly stable but he is not considered critical. His daughter lowers optimism as fluids build in his lungs and kidneys show blockage.

Fire Calls Wednesday at 110 Highland and Youth Coffee House

Fire units responded Wednesday afternoon to a reported water leak at 110 Highland at 5 22 pm and to the Youth Coffee House at 5 41 pm for grease on a stove. No damage reported. owner listed as Jimmy Quan.

PG&E raises 1973 budget for undergrounding lines

Pacific Gas and Electric will increase its 1973 budget for undergrounding overhead lines for the sixth straight year. The $11 million statewide allocation covers northern and central California with a $1 million rise from 1972, bringing six year total to $56 million. In Mendocino County, $252,400 has been spent since 1968 with $63,600 more budgeted for 1973 as part of a $399,200 county total including Willits Fort Bragg and Point Arena.

Action by board on Irish Beach development postponed

The Moores and Associates Irish Beach project north of Manchester had its approvals delayed as only three of five supervisors attended. Galletti and Barbero were in San Francisco. a special planning element, specific plan, environmental report and maps were to be considered at a future Dec 18 meeting.

Five-day veto session set to open January 2

Sacramento officials say a handful of lawmakers will skip New Year festivities to return for the five day veto session. Senate Rules Committee leader James Mills and spokesman indicate the session would convene January 2 with Sen. Albert Rodda and Sen. Stephen Teale volunteering to come in. A few nearby senators may join to seek adjournment after the opening. The legislature must meet for up to five days within 30 days after recessing.

Wetherns to enter pleas to gun charges

George and Helen Wethern face Superior Court tomorrow at 9 30 a m for a plea entry on possession of stolen property charges. Three bodies found on the Wethern ranch near Ukiah on Oct 30 are linked to Hell's Angels activity. Wethern testified against former gang associates in exchange for immunity and now faces probation with possible testimony requirements.

Non-voters urged to reinstate registration in Mendocino County

Postcards were mailed to over 4,300 voters who did not vote in the general election on November 7. They have 60 days from December 7 to reinstate by returning a signed card showing they still live at the address, or re-register if they have moved. Improper or unsigned cards cannot be processed. Call the registrar at 462-1620 or 462-4731 ext. 311 with questions.

Senate GOP backs Reagan income tax cut plan

Sacramento senators John Harmer and Fred Marler Jr. voiced full support for Gov. Reagan's proposed next year income tax relief. Senate Democratic leader George Moscone and Assembly Speaker Bob Moretti expressed skepticism, with Moscone urging loopholes be closed for greater savings and potential rebates. Marler said the tax relief follows the legislature's $1.1 billion property tax and school finance measure.

Mendocino College board postpones meeting to next Tuesday

Trustees lacking quorum rescheduled Wednesday's meeting to 7 p.m. at the county schools office. After weeks of personal interviews, the pool of applicants has narrowed to a very few as the board prepares to announce the first president superintendent, a post paying about 27000 dollars annually, possibly before year’s end.
