Suspects arraigned in Chowchilla bus kidnapping case

Three suspects Fred Woods James Schoenfeld and Richard Schoenfeld faced arraignment in Madera County Superior Court on 45 counts each including kidnapping kidnapping with bodily harm and robbery The hearing was postponed to September 22 to allow attorneys to study grand jury transcripts and plan pleas and a possible change of venue The court noted the transcript would remain sealed until then

Willits school board approves budget revisions

Willits district members voted in special session to approve three budget revisions for the coming year. The changes include continuing the girls PE program at Baechtel Grove, adding a band teaching position at Willits High, and allocating funds to aid Laytonville school needs. Kirk Weller was hired as high school music instructor, and Pat Brandstetter was appointed to fill the vacant trustee seat.

Mendocino County mulls self-insurance for workers' comp

Tuesday the Mendocino County board weighs pulling out of the State Compensation Insurance Fund to adopt a self-insurance program. A San Francisco consultant projects annual savings around 56,000 over 10 years, with an administration plan outlay of about 55,000 and total costs near 94,332 including claims and excess coverage.
