Firefighters contain Cow Mountain blaze near Ukiah
About 376 firefighters wrapped a stubborn fire on Cow Mountain three miles southeast of Ukiah by 8 a.m. today, declaring it 100 percent contained. Origin undetermined, it burned from Mill Creek Road area toward campgrounds prompting evacuations. Fifteen fire trucks and eight bulldozers aided, with five tankers and aerial drops. An inmate was injured by a rolling boulder during containment efforts. Two more fires west of Laytonville and a small brush blaze on Highland Springs Road were also tackled with quick control and limited damage.
